Is Comanche 4 more of a flight sim or an action game?
Comanche 4 is an action shooter that will appeal to both first person shooter and sim fans.
ACTION: The simple W, A, S, & D keys and mouselook controls will be instantly recognizable to first person shooter fans. Comanche 4 marks a return to the action-oriented gameplay found in the original Comanche game. We do not want the player to read a huge manual before getting up in the air and blowing up everything in sight.
Computer Keyboard Controls
SIM: A scalable flight model will ensure that sim enthusiasts, the game's fan base, have access to a myriad of technical features. These features allow for control over the cyclic, fan-tail and the collective. The Helmet Mounted Display (HMD) is scalable, with various modes available to show only the flight and weapons information the player wants to see.
What are the controls?
Comanche 4 supports a mouse-look interface that should be more familiar to action and shooter fans. The W, A, S, & D keys are combined with the mouse and several keys which control altitude. Most joysticks, throttles and pedals are also supported.
Does Comanche 4 have multiplayer?
Straight out of the box players will be able to host multiplayer games over LAN. Gamers will have the option to play cooperative, deathmatch and team oriented games. Comanche 4 internet play is available via NovaWorld.
What will the missions be like?
Comanche 4 will run the gamut from the more traditional 'search and destroy' missions to reconnaissance, force protection, and special operations. Players will fly cover for advancing armor, scout ahead for enemy positions, provide air cover for an embassy evacuation attack an aircraft carrier and safeguard an international diplomat. More military operations include assaulting an aircraft carrier and providing support for Delta Force.
What environments will be showcased?
Dense forests, tropical islands, urban areas, arctic conditions, and the open sea are all represented. The environments are all interactive, demonstrated by the amazing effect the helicopter's rotors have on land and over water. Unique terrain scarring occurs depending upon which weapon has been fired.
What enemies are involved?
Tanks, destroyers, ground troops armed with Stinger missiles, speedboats, jets, helicopters and more. Enemy helicopters will take advantage of extensive ground cover in order to sneak up on you.
What weapons will be included on the Comanche?
Hydra-70 Rockets, AGM-114 Hellfire Anti-tank missiles, Stinger Air to Air missiles and the mighty XM301 20mm cannon will be used to annihilate enemy vehicles and troops in the air and on the ground. The ability to call in artillery strikes will also be available in certain missions.

Video Questions
It says I need at least a 100mhz bus (2x AGP). Does that mean I need an AGP video card to play C4?
That is correct, you need an AGP video card to play Comanche 4.
Why doesn't my KYRO II chipset video card work?
There is an open issue with the Hercules Prophet 4500 and other KYRO II video cards. We have been informed that new drivers are forthcoming that will solve the problem. Check with your card manufacturer for the latest 3d card drivers.
The background graphics/terrains in the game are completely white. How can I fix this?
With all video card related issues, we first suggest you make sure you are using the latest 3d card drivers. These can be obtained from the card manufacturer's website. We have found that the white flashes are usually fixed by using the latest drivers.
Also, make sure you are running the latest version of the game. The latest version of Comanche 4 can be obtained by clicking 'Update Game' in the main menu.
If you have the latest 3d card drivers and you are running the latest version of the game and you are still experiencing white flashes, you may need to lower the demands on your 3d card. From the main menu, select options and proceed to the video menu. Try reducing all video settings (terrain and object detail, texture, water, and shadow quality, and particle density) by one notch and replaying the game. If the flashing persists, lower your video settings again.

Comanche 4 Download
Do I need a Product Key Code to play Comanche 4 via Novaworld?
Yes. After January 7, 2002, playing Comanche 4 via Novaworld will require you to enter your Product Key Code when first logging into Novaworld. Your Comanche 4 Product Key Code can be found inside the Comanche 4 jewel case.
How can I play Comanche 4 behind a firewall?
Version v1.0.1.8 of Comanche 4 has more support for NAT devices (see below) which should alleviate the need to program your firewall. If after updating the game to the latest version, it still does not work from behind the firewall, you will need to open ports 17200 (0x4330).
How do I get Comanche 4 to run on my cable/DSL router?
Prior to v1.0.1.8, running Comanche 4 behind a cable/DSL device using NAT (Network Address Translator - which allows multiple internet devices to share one IP) was a problem if you wanted to host a game. This problem has been resolved with v1.0.1.8. You can now run multiple clients or host on a network behind a NAT device.
NOTE: You cannot host a game behind an NAT device and join that game from another computer on the same network.
How do I set up multiple servers on a NAT network?
Because servers are configured to use port 17200 (0x4430), you may not get the server to work behind a NAT device without server configuration changes. You need to configure the servers to use different ports. Simply edit C4.cfg and change the existing line 'mp_ServerGamePort = 0' to a unique port. We recommend ports 17200, 21296, 25392, 29488, 33584, 37680, 41776, 45876, 49968, 54064, 58160 or 62256.
NOTE: For a LAN IP game, if your use a port other than the above prescribed ports, you will need to reconfigure the client. Clients searching for LAN servers with reconfigured ports need to change the existing line 'mp_gameport = 0' to match the server's mp_ServerGamePort.

How do I setup a LAN game with only one copy of Comanche 4?
You can play a Comanche 4 LAN game using your one copy of Comanche 4. The server is the only machine that requires a CD to play. First, do a large install on each client machine. Next, setup the server for LAN play. Finally, run C4LAN.exe on each client and have them join the LAN server. C4LAN client will only play LAN IP or LAN IPX games. It will not run Single Player or Novaworld multiplayer games.

Comanche Gold and the Control (CTRL) Key
[NovaLogic Official]
Comanche Gold uses the CTRL key to manipulate external camera views when used in combination
with the arrow keys.
[Decker's Extended Info]
Un-documented effects (bug) of CG's CTRL key code is that it can (and will) interfere with
the flight controls via the input buffer(s).
Example #1: Use the keyboard to control the pitch/fantail with the LEFT, UP, DOWN, or RIGHT
arrow keys. Then, while pressing one of those arrow keys, press-and-hold the CTRL key and then
release the arrow key while still holding the CTRL key. Your flight control input from the
arrow key will be frozen until you release the CTRL key. The CTRL key has the same affect on
the joystick X-Y axis.
Example #2: While holding the CTRL key, if you try to change the weapon priority, the active
weapon will not change until you release the CTRL key.
Example #3: Squeeze (and hold) the trigger to fire your cannon, then press-and-hold the CTRL
key. Your cannon will stop firing until you release the CTRL key.
Example #4: Set your Map Detail Level to full (press 'i' twice) and then press-and-hold the
CTRL key. Your map detail will switch back to the lowest level until you release the CTRL key.
There are many other functions of the game that the CTRL key can also interfere with so the
best suggestion was to avoid using the CTRL key as much as possible.
The 'bug' was discovered in 1999 (by 'Death-Wish' Decker) and immediately reported to
NovaLogic support.
NovaLogic never announced the existence of this bug.
NovaLogic never issued an addendum warning of this bug.
NovaLogic never took responsibility for this bug.
NovaLogic never released a patch to address this bug.
No return contact was ever made by NovaLogic.
This non-response from NovaLogic appeared to be the standard behavior of the company ever since.
[Additional Keyboard Info]
Comanche Gold uses a very aggressive approach to scanning the keyboard. There are just too
many keys assigned to redundant (or un-needed) functions. There are residual (un-used)
routines from the original 'cheat' codes that were eventually moved (back in the C3 days) to
the 'chat' entry interface. Even though cheats are entered using the 'r' key (or Radio/Chat
mode), the routines for stacking keystrokes are still present and still active. Many of the
game crash events can be back-traced to problems from the keyboard scans getting piled up
and messing with the stack.
[The Fix]
First, there is more un-documented information that must be relayed…
The CTRL+Arrow key combinations for the external camera views directly correspond to the
following keys:
DELETE = CTRL+ArrowLEFT
HOME = CTRL+ArrowUP
END = CTRL+ArrowDOWN
PGDOWN = CTRL+ArrowRIGHT
Since the CTRL key code has so many flaws, it was decided that Decker's Universal Trainer
would be used to finally correct this specific problem. The alternate keys (listed above)
can be used to manipulate the external camera views. This removes any need for the CTRL key
to be active in the game code.
[Decker's Universal Trainer - CTRL key and HOTKEY combinations]
When the Trainer's Hotkey button is enabled, the CTRL key code in the game is completely
over-written, allowing the Trainer to use the CTRL key without interference from the game.
At the same time, this fixes the legacy problem of the CTRL key in mission play.
The Trainer's Hotkey (enabled) combinations are:
CTRL+HOME
CTRL+PGUP
CTRL+PGDN
CTRL+END
When the Trainer's Hotkey button is disabled, the original CTRL key code is restored to
the game, with all of its legacy flaws intact.
The Trainer does not inject a keyboard hook into the game's process. Alternatively, the
Trainer completely replaces the game's specific CTRL key code and then assigns the CTRL
key combinations (for Hotkeys) using standard windows API calls. The Trainer's Hotkeys only
function when the game is the focused application. This ensures that the Trainer will not
influence any other application running on the system.
The Trainer does not use dynamically link library (.dll) add-on files. It is compiled in
pure Pascal (under Delphi 7) as a stand-alone application, and is extremely stable.
[Note]
The Universal Trainer was written by a 'programmer' who believes that machine code should
be an aspiring 'work of art' - not 'road kill' to be cleaned up by public employees.
Initial release date of the Universal Trainer is scheduled for 04/08/2013.
